Childrens Holiday Party Games

Childrens holiday party games are always a hit, no matter where you try them.

So if you have a classroom full of little ones, or are looking for something to do at your next playgroup party these party games will fit right in.

Pin the Star on the Christmas Tree

Materials Needed:

  • Named stars
  • Double-sided sticky tape
  • Blindfold

Instructions:

  • Make a named star for each of your kid guests. Make a few blank extras for any surprise guests or if any adults decide they want to join in!

  • Use double-sided sticky tape for everyone to fix their stars to the tree.

  • Blindfold each child one by one, turn them round three times and guide them towards the tree.

  • Each child sticks on their star - they may be aiming for the top of the tree, or you might just want them to get the star on the tree - it's up to you!

  • You'll finish with a beautifully decorated Christmas tree with all the names of the children on it.

Which Bells Jingle?

So more fun and unique childrens holiday party games.

Materials Needed:

  • Gather together, from family and friends, a selection of bells. Kid toy bells, favorite ornament bells, loud ding-dong bells - whatever you can find.
  • It's better if they all have quite different sounds and look a bit different, too.
  • For example:

A big old school bell - very loud

A glass bell - very twinkly

A tiny porcelain bell - even twinklier

A desk bell - the kind that go "ding!"

A shopkeeper's doorbell - usually cheerfully jingly!

Children's toy hand bells - jingles from several small bells all together

Instructions:

  • You might like to ring each bell at the start so that each child has some idea of the sound of each bell. And you could talk about what each bell is used for or where it comes from.

  • Now the kids are going to guess which bell is ringing.

  • They can do this in a group - everyone turns around, their backs to the bells. One bell is rung, they all try and decide which it is.

  • Let them all turn round again to see the answer and hear the bell.

  • Then onto the second bell

  • Individually - start with the oldest child turning their back on the bells, the others can watch, then take their turn one by one

  • Or play this Christmas childrens holiday party games both ways - as a group first, then individually.

Name that Tune

Materials Needed:

  • Eight to ten Christmas carols or songs
  • Tape recorder
  • Pen and paper

Instructions:

  • Use eight to ten Christmas carols or songs your guests are familiar with, and record the first ten seconds or so of each song.

  • If you want the children to write the answer down, do this in pairs and have grown ups help any pairs that need the answers writing down for them (or help with the answers of course!)

  • When playing this Christmas party game with younger children, sit them in a circle, play the tunes and let them guess together.

Christmas Card Toss

Materials Needed:

  • Selection of small Christmas toys or ornaments to throw, as well as a couple of Christmas cards.
  • Bucket

Instructions:

  • Have you ever tried throwing Christmas cards into a bucket? It's quite difficult!

  • This Christmas party game can be very frustrating for little kids, too!

  • For children up to six, gather together a selection of small Christmas toys or ornaments to throw, as well as a couple of Christmas cards.

  • Tell the older kids they're not having it so easy - and include more cards or only cards if they feel up to the challenge!
