Role Games Learning Language Children
Are you looking for role games learning language children? Then look no further! Below you will a few different games that are an excellent way of helping young children learn language skills.
They are all great for strengthening language skills or even learning a new language.
Guess My Name
Materials Needed:
- Board with many pictures of a variety of things (car, tree, dog, book, etc...)
Instructions:
- Pick one thing to describe and start with one attribute of that item. "I live in the water, what am I?
- As your child's skill increases you can add in other attributes like "I live in the water, I don't have gills, and I am brown."
- For more advanced kids you can use dice and markers and everyone takes a turn describing the items on the board.
Sound Bingo
Materials Needed:
- Bingo cards with pictures of items
- Markers
- Audio or CD and player
Instructions:
- Play Bingo just as you normally would, but instead of calling out items play the sound that the item makes instead, and have the children guess what it is.
Tell-A-Story
Materials Needed:
- Picture cards with a sequence of events. For instance, you can have a set of cards outlining how to brush your teeth.
Instructions:
- Let the children take turns putting the cards in order as they should happen. Let them tell you the story out loud in their own words.
What would you do?
Materials Needed:
- Create a series of flash cards with "What would you do?" phrases. These could be like "what would you do if you had $10 dollars?" "What would you do if you found a kitten?" Etc..
Instructions:
- Take turns asking the children what they would do and then letting them talk it out.
Touch and Tell Game
Here's another great role games learning language children.
Materials Needed:
- A box with various items, all with different textures. Some ideas are: stones, a mirror, sand paper, rough marbles, golf balls, furry ball of yarn, etc.
Instructions:
- Cover the child's eyes with a large bandana or eye mask
- Let each child put their hand in and pull out an item.
- Then ask them what they feel, what they would do with it, and what do they think it is?
Record Your World Game
Materials Needed:
- Small tape recorder and blank tapes
Instructions:
- Allow each child time to start recording sounds and voices of those around them. Encourage them to put on their own radio show or make their own commercials- anything to get them talking.
